He also tried to jam through the President’s $1.7 billion weaponization fund, which would be an unprecedented misuse of taxpayer money.

He has gone after others, from the Olympic Medalist who stuck his hand in the reflecting pool, to the New York Attorney General, to his own former FBI Director, James Comey.

On Blanche’s watch, the Department of Justice tried to criminally indict me and my colleagues over a 90-second video that simply restated the law.
- ES
Today I voted no on the confirmation of Todd Blanche to be Attorney General. Instead of standing up for the rule of law or demonstrating any sense of independence, Blanche has repeatedly chosen to go along with President Trump’s weaponization of the Justice Department.

I look forward to working with my colleagues on getting this important piece of bipartisan legislation passed.

No one should ever fear going to their house of worship. Period. The Right to Worship Act helps ensure that by prohibiting disruptive conduct within 100 feet of a religious institution that’s used to threaten or impede access. www.thejewishnews.com/jewish-teleg...

After serving three tours in Iraq alongside U.S. servicemembers, I know the importance of a stable and prosperous Iraq.

I appreciated meeting with Iraq’s new Prime Minister Al Zaidi earlier this month. Michigan is home to a diverse and successful Iraqi-American community -- the largest in the country -- so what happens in Iraq matters in Michigan.

I think you’ve raised a lot of concerns in your testimony over the last couple of days, but the idea that the administration would put that kind of language out there to intimidate and scare people out of freedom of speech is something that is the most anti-American thing I’ve seen in a long time.
- ES
Slotkin: You can’t want the big job but then not answer the big questions. I think the idea that First Amendment activities would be quote “anti-American” or threaten the reputation of this administration... you understand that you are creating a climate of fear.
- ES
Duncan: The political appointees. OMB does not issue grants. We issue guidance, uniform guidance on grants. So, I would not make decisions on a specific grant.
- ES
Hal Duncan: Senator, again you are asking hypothetical questions. The ultimate deciders of these grants will be the political employees at the agencies. I would imagine in this situation it would likely be HHS. Slotkin: The political appointees? Like yourself?
- ES
Sen. Slotkin: If a domestic violence shelter receives a federal grant, but they also post complaints about this administration’s cutting of domestic violence funding, will that put them at risk of being labeled anti-American or threatening the reputation of this administration?

The most anti-American thing I have seen in a long time... Read this exchange I had with Hal Duncan, President Trump’s nominee for Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget:

Time and time again, President Trump, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, and Jeanine Pirro have weaponized the federal government against their perceived enemies. The intimidation is the point. It won’t work.

I was glad to meet with SMART General President Michael Coleman and his leadership team to discuss issues impacting workers, like supporting veterans with apprenticeship opportunities and why we have to stop politicizing projects that support good-paying jobs.

Our sheet metal, HVAC and transportation workers are foundational to our economy. Without them and our other trades, we can't build things.

Our elections are safe and secure — that’s the top line. But as President Trump continues to cast doubt on our elections, we need to be prepared. I’ve been working through scenarios to ensure we have the tools to protect our democratic process.

After further violence with ICE this year, accountability and oversight are a bare minimum.

After the deadly tornadoes in Southwest Michigan, I heard the same question over and over: Are we seeing more severe weather? I met with the National Weather Service and FEMA, and the answer is yes.

The recently passed bipartisan housing bill cuts unnecessary red tape that can add thousands of dollars to the cost of building a home. If we want more affordable housing, we need to make it easier and less expensive to build.

Beyond trade, this bridge strengthens the ties of employment, family, culture, and friendship that connect Michigan and Canada. If you head across, don't forget your passport!

The Gordie Howe International Bridge is officially open! Canada is Michigan's largest trading partner, with more than $80 billion in goods crossing our border every year.

Our union workers are often the first to get wind of issues with the federal government in workplaces, so it was good to sit down and hear directly from them. Steelworkers are always welcome in my office (even if they are from Ohio).

Our elections are safe and secure, but President Trump is pulling pages right out of the authoritarian playbook. We have to listen to exactly what he is saying and be ready. www.notus.org/2026-electio...

In this week's Intel Briefing, we break down 3 important topics: 1️⃣ The Gordie Howe Bridge and how it will help Michiganders 2️⃣ How to stay safe during tornadoes and other extreme weather 3️⃣ What it could look like if Pres. Trump tries to interfere in our elections youtu.be/W6C6wOh4i5c

We need future leaders like them in Michigan and across the country. I commend their dedication to public service. Thanks for stopping by! @umich.edu

This week, I had the chance to talk with the next generation of leaders from the University of Michigan Public Service Intern Program. We had insightful conversations about what it’s like to serve as a Senator, bipartisanship, and the overwhelming need for younger leadership in our politics.

Two million Michiganders rely on Social Security. The Trust Fund is projected to run out in 2032, and Congress has bipartisan options to fix it. I break it down.

That does not make us safe. We want the military to be the best fighting force it can be, and it can’t do that when its morale is being tested and people are leaving.
- ES
So, between morale and loss of qualified senior enlisted and senior officers, we are seeing a real change in our military that's affecting things not just at the top level, but also all the way down to our most junior officers.

... No one’s ever going to give me a merit-based promotion and so maybe I’ll retire. Maybe I’ll get out early.”
- ES
I’m hearing young people, particularly young women and young officers of color, who are saying to me, “I planned to be in the military for 20 or 30 years, but now I feel like there is going to be a ceiling on me succeeding in this institution....
- ES
I am hearing from a ton of people who have been career military officers who are saying, “look if anyone of color or if every woman is being stripped out of these lists, how am I to understand who and how can get promoted.”
- ES
What I am hearing about from folks in uniform is a new secret vetting process where people in the Department of Defense are looking at someone’s social media history. Looking at whether they attended a Pride event or posted something on their personal Facebook page about Martin Luther King Day.
- ES
Just this year, 40 military officers have been forcibly removed from those promotion lists. Over half of them are either women, or people of color. There seems to be a pointed effort to get rid of people who are not white men who are on the promotion list by merit.
- ES
What is happening inside the military with promotions and firings: We have a ton of people who are being removed from promotion lists. They’re being recommended by those in uniform, and they are being stripped out by Pete Hegseth.

The war in Iran is driving up costs here at home. If and when the Strait of Hormuz opens up, and global shipping is resumed it will be important to hold oil and gas companies accountable and make sure gas prices are again coming down.

Whether it’s on land, in the water, or in the sky — new technology should be built by Michiganders, many of whom were in the room with me in Traverse City last week. Companies like Sharrow Marine, whose propeller technology is groundbreaking (and it’s made right here in Michigan!)

I never posted on social media before I ran for office. One of the first times I posted was about President Trump trying to repeal Obamacare. It took my friends by surprise and they thought I’d been hacked.

What can state programs and our bipartisan housing bill do for homebuyers in Michigan? I break it down, including how through Michigan’s housing agency, eligible homebuyers may qualify for up to $10,000 in down payment assistance, closing costs, and other prepaid expenses.

Talking with Michiganders of all backgrounds and ages is one of my favorite parts of the job, and a few weeks ago, Mayas Smith, a student heading to college and host of Young Citizens Academy, on Bloomfield Community Television reached out for an interview and I was happy to agree.
