My bipartisan bill with Senator Bernie Moreno to ban Chinese cars, the Connected Vehicle Security Act, just advanced out of a key committee with unanimous bipartisan support. Chinese cars are surveillance packages on wheels and I'm looking forward to getting this bill over the finish line.

Attending the Senate Commerce Committee today as they mark up and vote on my bill with Senator Bernie Moreno to ban Chinese vehicles in the United States. It has support from both parties, business and labor. This is an important first step; let's get it across the finish line.

Right now, I’m headed to the Senate Commerce Committee, which is taking up our bill to ban Chinese cars. These vehicles are a threat to our national security and economy, and today is an important step in getting my bipartisan bill with Senator Bernie Moreno passed into law. Let's get it done.

Festivals are meant to bring people together. As festival season continues, I want to remind everyone to stay alert, look out for one another & trust your instincts. If you notice something that doesn’t seem right or see someone who may need help, speak up and alert event staff or law enforcement.

It’s heartbreaking that, in such a short period of time, one young man has lost his life and another has sustained severe injuries in separate incidents at music festivals in our state. My heart goes out to their families, friends, and loved ones as they navigate the days ahead.

President Trump is weaponizing the government against his perceived enemies. That includes when he tried to jail and indict my colleagues and me over a 90-second video. And now it includes going after journalists and their families.

The Department of Defense should release its findings on the deadly bombing of an elementary school in Iran. The deadliest civilian casualty event tied to the U.S. military in decades.

Asking the most important questions on National Hot Dog Day. (By the way, the correct answer is grilled with mustard and onions, chili if you’d like)

In Michigan, voters on both the left and the right are focused on kitchen-table issues, not getting into more wars and spending more money abroad.

President Trump tweeted about me last night and my concerns that the Postal Service was going to curb mail-in voting. But it's part of a much bigger playbook from this President. The man has basically said, "If my team loses, the system is rigged."

But in our 250th year, I can't think of anything more important than standing up for our democracy and our right to vote.
- ES
He is obsessed with pushing misinformation about America's elections because he fears he's going to lose in Nov. It's all part of a well-worn authoritarian playbook and the intimidation is the point.
- ES
Last night, President Trump was back to tweeting about me. This time it wasn't about his efforts to criminally indict me, but my work to stop his Administration from curbing our right to vote by mail.

We are back in a full scale war, and it’s important we understand its consequences.
- ES
The estimated $200 billion we’ve spent on the war in Iran could have paid for everyone on Medicare to get free dental, vision, and hearing care for six years. It could have paid for a check to every American household for $1,500. It could do school lunches for all kids for 18 years.

Michigan has free and fair elections. We are a swing state. We know how to do this. It's very important that we understand what the President is trying to do in writing this narrative ahead of the November elections.
- ES
The President is clearly focused on a handful of states that he says have problems in our elections, including Michigan.

The president thinks he can tell the American people that we're winning the war with Iran when they still know the price of gas. People aren't stupid.

Since then, he has attempted to seize ballots, sued 30 states for their voter rolls, dismantled the Election Assistance Commission, and pushed to pass the SAVE Act which would disenfranchise millions of voters across the country. We cannot allow this type of corruption to become normalized.

At the State of the Union, President Trump declared that the only way Democrats could win in the midterms is if they cheat.

The president refuses to rule out, as does his cabinet, sending in uniform military. He's obsessed with it. That's why I introduced the Protect Our Polls Act.

Power in the wrong hands can be used against the American People. That’s why I introduced the MERIT Act, a bill requiring anyone serving as the director of national intelligence to have extensive national security experience. It’s common sense.
- ES
Bill Pulte has zero national security experience, but right now he heads up 18 different intelligence agencies.

We must ensure that people who serve as the acting Director of National Intelligence actually have some national security experience needed to do this job, and treat it responsibly. Not on behalf of one party, not on behalf of one man, but on behalf of Americans to keep us safe.
- ES
Today, I’m introducing the MERIT Act — the Minimum Experience Requirements for Intelligence Transition Act. This comes as Bill Pulte serves as Acting DNI, and ahead of President Trump’s address on elections this evening. youtube.com/shorts/WsDH0...

We prepared 1000 (!) hot dogs and chili so folks could have coney dogs and we were well supplied with Vernors, ice-cream, cherry-flavored snacks of all kinds from Cherry Republic and Benjamin Twiggs, Short's Beer, and Espresso Bay Coffee.

This year @SenGaryPeters and I again helped bring a little Michigan pride to Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Capitol to celebrate National Hot Dog Day. We put out the call for Michiganders (and friends) to show up, and boy did they!

The Department of Justice tried to criminally indict me over a 90-second video. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche played a central role in that. This is not the standard we should have for a cabinet-level official.

There is a fundamental rejection by President Trump to make even the most basic reforms for roving bands of ICE and federal law enforcement in our cities. You can't convince the American public that everything's great when they've seen with their own eyes people murdered in cold blood.

I voted no on the Pentagon’s budget because the Trump Administration cannot even tell us the full cost of the war in Iran. A bit of transparency for our soldiers and the price tag is not too much to ask.

In our history, we have never sent uniformed military to our polls. Not during World War II. Not after 9/11. The Protect Our Polls Act stops the President from using the uniformed military to interfere in elections.

Idlewild is an incredible part of Michigan’s history, and I got the grand tour (by pontoon!) from Yates Township Supervisor, Chris, and his lovely family.
- ES
Over summer weekends, the town could swell up to 25,000 people from the Midwest and beyond. And because of that, it was a required stop for African-American musicians.
- ES
Do you know the story of Idlewild, Michigan? From the 1940s to the early 1960s, Idlewild was one of the very few places in the entire country where African-Americans were allowed to rent and purchase lakeside property.

There's a very common playbook that leaders use when they fear that they or their party are going to lose an election. So, here are some of the steps in that authoritarian playbook that you should look out for.

He’s sued Michigan and 30+ states to get their voter rolls, is actively trying to keep people from voting by mail, and has spoken openly about taking over elections in states that oppose him. And now he is gutting the Election Assistance Commission, which simply helps states administer elections.

President Trump has repeatedly told us exactly what he plans to do and exactly what he thinks. If his side doesn’t win, the elections are rigged.

The Syrian diaspora, anchored by a strong and successful community in Michigan, is ready to help lead that effort -- and that requires the full and speedy implementation of this decision.
- ES
In the meantime, the new Syrian government has demonstrated a willingness to fight terrorism. It's time to open a new chapter in the US-Syria relationship and to give Syrians a real chance at stability and economic development.
- ES
As I get back to DC, I want to welcome the announcement that the United States intends to remove Syria from the State Sponsor of Terrorism list. It's clear that this designation has been a roadblock to Syria's much-needed reconstruction and economic development — including from Syrian-Michiganders.
