Last week, I visited Leaders Advancing & Helping Communities. I saw firsthand the barriers families face getting food benefits, health care, childcare, and other basics, and how hard it can be just to get through the paperwork and red tape.

Many survivors rebuilt their lives and families in Michigan, now home to nearly 50,000 Armenian Americans. On this Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, let's honor the victims and survivors of this atrocity, and those who carried on to tell the stories of survival and history generations later.
- ES
Today, I join the Michigan Armenian community in remembering the victims of the Armenian Genocide. A tragedy, which took place from 1915 to 1923, when the Ottoman Empire systematically annihilated more than 1.5 million Armenians.

In this week's Intel Briefing, we discuss a few big items: 1️⃣ Where we stand with the War in Iran 2️⃣ China, President Trump and Chinese vehicles 3️⃣ The President demanding Wayne County's 2020 ballots youtu.be/2KdI-9t5Sew

President Trump is using the federal government to go after his enemies. And if they can do that to a Senator imagine what they can do to a local clerk or a mom who goes viral on TikTok. The intimidation is the point, and it's right out of an authoritarian playbook.

We have to figure out a new way forward. I am interested in new ideas because the old way of doing things wasn’t working.

This President has repeatedly kicked our allies in the teeth and cozied up to our adversaries. This has real consequences for states like Michigan, especially when it comes to our relationship with Canada.

It's one job with good benefits where you can save every month. A home you can afford. A good public school for your kids and good health care and that doesn't make you go bankrupt if you get sick. That's true freedom, and I will fight for that every day right alongside you.

The Building Trades were some of my earliest supporters and they've been steadfast allies and friends ever since. North America’s Building Trades Unions represents America at its best, and they know what true freedom means.

I was able to get Secretary Mullin to commit to investing more into this program earlier this year, but the job is not done. I appreciate these leaders making their voices heard, and working to protect Jewish communities from the threat of violence.
- ES
These leaders have survived violence and hate of the worst kind, up close and personal. And they were here to fight for more security funding through the non-profit security grant program.

Jewish people are the most targeted religious community in the United States, and anti-semitism is rising left, right and center. That's why today, I met community leaders from the Anti-Defamation League from Temple Israel in Michigan and across the country.

Our military knows the law and their duty to push back against illegal orders. Especially as the President suggests he wants the U.S. to obliterate an entire civilization.

The intimidation is the point, and Michiganders will not be intimidated out of free and fair elections. This request for Wayne County's 2020 ballots is based on discredited allegations. It's another attempt by President Trump to cast doubt on our elections before the midterms.

We should never be turning the intelligence community on our own people. I break down the latest on the President’s domestic terrorism order, known as NSPM-7.

During Black Maternal Health Week, we’re facing a reality we can’t ignore. In Michigan and across the country, Black women still face higher risks during pregnancy and are 3 to 4 times more likely to die from complications.

I shared the continuing concerns of Michiganders with deep ties to Lebanon and Israel, and discussed how to turn this into a durable ceasefire that supports the security of both countries.
- ES
Yesterday, I met with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa, just a few hours after some of the first direct-contact between the Lebanese and Israeli governments helped move us to a temporary ceasefire between the two.

In this week's Intel Brief, we dig into a few big issues: 1️⃣ An update on the war in Iran 2️⃣ How the war is causing rising costs across the board 3️⃣ NSPM-7, the President's domestic terrorist executive order, 4️⃣ A big development in AI on cyber vulnerabilities youtu.be/JgqfdJ-34Qw?...

We discussed everything from how the war in Iran is driving up costs for folks across the midwest, the rise in antisemitism, AI, and how we can move past ugly rhetoric from politicians on both sides of the aisle.
- ES
This week, I sat down for a conversation with Bob Costa and fellow midwesterners (okay, it was Notre-Dame) to discuss the issues that impact all of us.

Yesterday, Michiganders across our state bore the brunt of extreme weather, including floods and tornadoes. This is a difficult and trying time for our neighbors, but Michiganders stand together, and we will rebuild together.

I see this as a national security issue. In a diverse nation like ours, if people can't work hard, play by the rules and get ahead and have their kids do better, we got a real problem.

We also discussed PFAS water remediation in the Grayling community and how the federal government can help with that cleanup. My team and I are committed to continued feedback, engagement, and action. If you would like to set up a meeting, reach out!

These conversations centered around housing, electric rates and rural health care in the UP, and new electronic health record transition across 4 VA medical centers in the lower peninsula.

On Monday, I held 5 virtual conversations with groups across Michigan. This included meetings with Marquette ambassadors, Macomb leaders, veteran service organizations, and Grayling Restoration Advisory Board members.

First responders and road crews are sharing that travel conditions can be hazardous. It’s critical we allow them the space they need to do their jobs and keep communities safe — if you do not need to travel, please avoid these areas.

We are monitoring the widespread flooding and hazardous conditions across Northern Michigan. If you need assistance or shelter, please call 2-1-1 or contact your local American Red Cross. You can also find the latest updates and resources on your county emergency manager’s social media pages.

We are in the middle of an American cultural conversation about ICE and the role of federal law enforcement in our city streets. In the meantime, ICE has lost the trust of Michiganders and should not move forward with this proposal.

Throughout the visit, one thing remained clear: this is a warehouse and is not a place that is fit to house human beings, especially about 500 feet from neighborhoods full of residents.
