Congressman Pat Harrigan Secures Five Amendments During HASC Markup of FY27 NDAA

We got right to repair done, we are deploying nuclear power to INDOPACOM, we are banning Chinese optical fiber from our defense networks, and we are making sure our allies can shoot the same ammunition we do. Every one of these amendments addresses a real gap in how we fight and sustain our forces, and I am proud to have gotten them across the line," said Congressman Harrigan. Congressman Harrigan's amendments successfully included in the FY27 NDAA during markup are: Military Right to Repair: Led alongside Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander (D-NH-02), ensuring the Department of Defense can access the technical data needed to maintain and repair mission-critical equipment without being held hostage by contractor monopolies. Deployable Nuclear Power for INDOPACOM: Directing the Department of Defense to deploy and operate a transportable nuclear microreactor within INDOPACOM's area of responsibility by January 1, 2030, providing reliable power for expeditionary operations in contested logistics environments. Ban on Chinese-Manufactured Optical Fiber: Prohibiting the Department of Defense and its contractors from procuring or using optical fiber produced or controlled by entities under the jurisdiction of the People's Republic of China, closing a critical supply chain vulnerability in defense communications networks. Repair by Replacement Reform: Strengthening the Department of Defense's ability to sustain equipment in the field by addressing how replacement parts are procured and maintained across the force. 6.8mm NATO Standardization: Directing the Department of Defense to pursue NATO standardization of next-generation 6.8x51mm small arms ammunition, ensuring interoperability among allies for logistics, resupply, and coalition operations.
