Kean Introduces Legislation to Ban Taxpayer Spending on First Class Flights for Members of Congress

Image September 3, 2026 Press Release (SEPTEMBER 3, 2026) WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) introduced the No Taxpayer Funds for Congressional First Class Flights Act (H.R. 10244) . This legislation would prohibit the use of official travel funds by Members of Congress for flight accommodations that are not coach class. “Public service should never be used for personal luxury, and taxpayers should not be footing the bill for Members of Congress to fly first class,” said Congressman Kean . “Every taxpayer dollar should be treated with respect and used responsibly. I am fighting to ensure that politicians put the public first and put an end to any kind of abuse that funds special privileges for elected officials.” Throughout his time in the House of Representatives, Congressman Kean has been a leader in ethics reform, spearheading efforts to ban members of congress from trading individual stocks. In July, he voted in favor of the Stop Insider Trading Act to ban members of Congress, their spouses, and their dependent children from purchasing publicly traded, individual stocks.
