Congresswoman Tenney and House Intelligence Chairman Crawford Host House Intelligence SCALE UP Event in Syracuse on CCP Counterintelligence Threats

September 18, 2026 Press Release Syracuse, N.Y. — Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) , a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Committee Chairman Rick Crawford (AR-01) hosted federal, state, and private sector partners at Hancock Air National Guard Base in Syracuse for a SCALE UP event examining counterintelligence threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party in Upstate New York and across the United States. The SCALE UP event brought the House Intelligence Committee's work to Upstate New York for classified and unclassified discussions on how the CCP targets our government, critical infrastructure, businesses, agriculture, educational institutions, and other sectors. Tenney and Chairman Crawford heard from National Counterintelligence and Security Center Director Wes Street and senior leaders from the FBI, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA), Army Counterintelligence Command (ACIC), Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), and Department of Homeland Security. The discussion focused on improving cooperation among federal, state, and local officials and private sector partners to better detect, deter, and disrupt foreign intelligence activities in Upstate New York and throughout the country. “Protecting our national security starts with defending our communities here at home,” said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney. “The Chinese Communist Party is targeting American industry, research, and critical infrastructure to undermine our economic strength and threaten our way of life. These operations go beyond stealing information. The CCP is seeking access to the systems Americans depend on so it can disrupt essential services and exploit that access in a crisis. This roundtable brings my work on the House Intelligence Committee home to Upstate New York, connecting federal experts with local leaders to confront these threats. I thank Chairman Crawford for his leadership as we work to hold the CCP accountable and put the safety and security of Americans first.” "In today's age, an attack on our nation might not come by aerial bombing campaigns. It might not come with fiery assaults on civilian or military infrastructure, inflicting mass causalities," said Chairman Crawford. "A new kind of attack may come quickly and quietly with debilitating consequences for the security and prosperity of our country. I applaud Rep. Tenney for her steadfast commitment to ensuring New Yorkers, and all Americans, understand the growing counterintelligence threat we continue to face both at home and abroad. We cannot risk waiting for the counterintelligence version of September 11th to make the reforms needed to strategically disable, disrupt, and neutralize foreign intelligence entities' activities against the United States.” ###
