Senator Justice Joins First Settlement Physical Therapy to Highlight SAFE Act

TRIADELPHIA, WV – Today, Senator Jim Justice joined First Settlement Physical Therapy and Wheeling University Doctor of Physical Therapy students to highlight his Stopping Addiction and Falls for the Elderly (SAFE) Act. “It’s great to be back with the team at First Settlement Physical Therapy to talk about my SAFE Act. We know how much our seniors value staying active, but one fall can take all of that away in a heartbeat. That’s why this bill matters so much. I want to thank the incredible therapists across our state, along with the future DPT students here today, for the work you do every day to give our seniors the care and support they need to stay safe, healthy, and independent,” said Senator Jim Justice . BACKGROUND: Senator Jim Justice introduced the Stopping Addiction and Falls for the Elderly (SAFE) Act on July 31, 2025, to help seniors identify and address fall risks before they result in serious injuries. The SAFE Act would allow seniors enrolled in Medicare to receive a no-cost fall risk assessment from a physical or occupational therapist as part of their annual wellness visit. The assessment would help identify balance, mobility, strength, and other issues that could put seniors at risk of falling, allowing them to take preventive steps before an accident occurs. Senator Justice championed the SAFE Act before the Senate Special Committee on Aging during a hearing in May, highlighting the importance of prevention and the role physical and occupational therapists can play in helping seniors remain healthy, independent, and on their feet. Today’s visit marks the second time Senator Justice has visited a First Settlement Physical Therapy facility to promote the SAFE Act. He previously visited FSPT’s Beckley location during the July 2026 recess. # # #
