ICYMI: Gallego Joins Canadian TV to Denounce Trump’s Trade War

CANADA – This week, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) sat down with Vassy Kapelos of CTV National News to discuss the importance of bilateral trade for Arizona, the most recent trade war’s effects on America and Canada’s alliance, and Pete Hegseth’s recent comments towards Canadian Cadets. He made the below statements: On Arizona’s and Canada’s economic connection: “Everyone thinks Arizona is just a state that’s dependent on trade with Mexico. We have a very integrated economy that relies on a lot of Canadian imports for us to have a full-scale economy. And so, anytime we have these types of problems, it will extend into our economy. “We have a high-tech economy where we have a lot of aerospace that is dependent on goods from Canada that we use to create some fine products. We have, chips and chip manufacturing coming out of Arizona to go to Canada, and vice versa, in terms of finished products coming back to Arizona. So, we don’t want to see this happen.” On devastating effect of the most recent U.S.-Canada trade war: “The everyday American worker is hurting. We’re not getting richer because of these tariffs. We’re actually only getting poorer. And again, it’s deteriorating a relationship. It’s a very strong relationship, one of the strongest relationships in the world, an alliance that has really stabilized North America and has created one of the most, you know, economic behemoths in the history of the world.” On Pete Hegseth’s recent comment about Canadian Cadets: “The U.S.-Canadian relationship is going to supersede the prime minister and this president… These men, especially someone like Pete Hegseth, who’s acting the way he is, are not reflective of the general public of the United States. I think that will end up winning at the end of the day. “In the meantime, I would hope that, at minimum, we could not engage in a tariff war. It doesn’t help anybody. It ends up hurting, and in the long term, it can help a very important relationship that’s been a stabilizer to North America.” Watch full interview HERE .
