Thompson Marks 25th Anniversary of the September 11 Attacks

September 11, 2026 Press Release (WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on the 25th Anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 Attacks. “Twenty-five years later, the pain of September 11th has not faded. We remember the nearly 3,000 people who were taken from their families and the extraordinary courage shown by first responders and ordinary citizens alike. The best way to honor them is to make sure our country never suffers a tragedy like that again. “After 9/11, we worked across party lines to strengthen our homeland security. Today, those protections are being weakened as threats continue to evolve. Cutting national security staff, undermining cybersecurity, threatening TSA privatization, and withholding counterterrorism funding create dangerous security gaps. We should be working together to close gaps, not senselessly creating new ones. “We must be clear-eyed about the world we live in – and strive to uphold our American values as we seek to secure our people and our homeland. We owe it to the Americans who lost their lives on 9/11 to ensure our government is focused on the most pressing threats facing the Nation so that, together, we can help defend the homeland against them.” #  #  # Media contact
