Klobuchar Statement on Military Strikes in Iran

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the following statement on the U.S. military strikes in Iran:
"The President–with no authorization from Congress—has gone to war with Iran. Under the U.S. Constitution it is Congress – and not the President –who has the power to declare war.
“I have long supported sanctions against Iran which is a terrorist state. I also supported the Iran nuclear agreement negotiated by President Obama and our allies. I opposed President Trump's decision to take us out of that agreement,”
said Klobuchar

“Iran should never have a nuclear weapon, and the regime's aggression in the region and repression of Iranian citizens must end. This military campaign, however, puts American troops at serious risk and has begun without a clear justification of any imminent need for war. Such a consequential decision requires debate and authorization from Congress. This war has not been justified to the American people.”
