Luján Statement Commemorating Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Santa Fe, N.M. – U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement in commemoration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day: “On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we recognize and honor the accomplishments, contributions, and strength of Tribal Nations across New Mexico and the country. This day is also an important reminder of the generations of injustice endured by Native communities and our responsibility to confront that history. “I’ve long fought for Indigenous Peoples’ Day to be recognized as a federal holiday and will continue pushing to honor the Native people who have played a vital role in our communities and in shaping our nation’s history. “Let this day serve as a celebration of Tribal Nations and a reminder of the work ahead to fulfill the federal government’s responsibilities to Tribes and Pueblos across the United States.” ###
