Shaheen Visits Affordable Housing in Keene, Spotlights Key Provisions She Secured for New Hampshire in Landmark 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

(Keene, NH) – Today, with New Hampshire housing costs at a record-high level, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) continued her “Affordability Action Tour” by visiting an affordable housing site in Keene to discuss her work in Washington to lower housing costs for Granite State families and increase the supply of homes across the state. Shaheen was joined by local officials to tour the Marlboro Street site of a multifamily home acquired by the Keene Housing Authority that will be redeveloped into affordable housing. The project is funded in part by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)—a program that Shaheen has long supported. The bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act —which includes three Shaheen-led provisions—expands the CDBG program and will increase support for projects like Keene’s Marlboro Street renovation. I was proud to support the federal grant helping to make Keene’s Marlboro Street project possible—it's exactly the kind of development that will see increased support thanks to this new housing law.” Shaheen is leading efforts in the Senate to lower housing costs and increase the supply of affordable units, including her efforts to help pass the landmark 21 st Century Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream (ROAD) to Housing Act earlier this year. The legislation includes three New Hampshire-focused provisions Shaheen secured—the Strategy and Investment in Rural Housing Preservation Act, Streamlining Rural Housing Act and the Preservation and Reinvestment Initiative in Community Enhancement (PRICE) Act —to expand the supply of affordable housing, streamline construction and lower costs in the Granite State and across the country. In the bipartisan Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations bill, Shaheen secured upwards of $9 million in federal funding for affordable housing in New Hampshire.
