WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, during a committee hearing, Senator Andy Kim reminded Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr that the FCC is an independent agency and as the Chairman, he took an oath to the U.S. Constitution, not Donald Trump.
The FCC was created in 1934 as an independent agency in order for their decision-making over the country’s radio and other telecommunications like cable TV to be impartial. Shortly after Chairman Carr, during the hearing, shockingly stated that the agency was not formally independent, the FCC website removed the word “independent” from the agency’s website.
During the hearing, Senator Kim pressed:“Before the FCC comes all of these decisions…and when you cannot tell me directly that Trump is not your boss, and that the American people are your boss. I do not trust you, that you can make these decisions with the independent mind that is needed and is directed by Congress.”
