Sen. Ossoff Pressing for Competent Postmaster General to Solve Georgia Mail Delays

Washington, D.C.— U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is pressuring the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to recruit a competent Postmaster General who can address mail delays in Georgia.
Following the resignation of former Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, Sen. Ossoff is urging the USPS Board of Governors to replace him with leadership who can solve the continued delays with on-time mail delivery across Georgia.
“My constituents, and I cannot emphasize this strongly enough, are beside themselves at the consistent and recurring failure of USPS leadership to execute their basic mission in Georgia,”Sen. Ossoff wrote to the Board of Governors.
According to data released by USPS last month, Georgia District Overall First-Class Mail Service is7.7% below the National Average.
“The absence of a Postmaster General leaves USPS without direction and the urgency necessary to ensure timely delivery. Georgians deserve reliable on-time mail delivery, and competent leadership that will deliver results,”Sen. Ossoff continued.“I once again urge you to swiftly appoint a new Postmaster General who will completely correct the abysmal failure of Postmaster General DeJoy’s Delivering for America program.”
Sen. Ossoff continues to lead vigorous oversight of USPS and pressure leadership to improve performance delays that impact Georgians.
In January, after receiving reports from Georgia veterans that the U.S. Postal Service is failing to deliver prescriptions and appointment notices on time, hurting their access to benefits and care, Sen. Ossoffdemandedthat USPS swiftly delivers prescriptions, medications, and VA appointment notices to Georgia veterans.
Last year,Sen. Ossoff questioned Postmaster General DeJoyunder oath during a U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing about Georgia mail delays.
