Kaptur Applauds Additional Investment Of $289,597 For Northwest Ohio Airports

August 14, 2026 Press Release Toledo, OH — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced that two Northwest Ohio airports will receive United States Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awards for critical upgrades and improvements. The Defiance County Regional Airport Authority will receive $192,887 for pavement reconstruction, while the Put-in-Bay Township Port Authority will receive $96,710 for an airport-wide obstruction survey. “Ohio’s strong aviation history shines bright across our Great Lakes region, and it is a privilege to build upon it by investing in local airport innovation and expansion,” said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09). “Creating partnerships between Federal agencies and our local communities is vital to Northwest Ohio’ continued success. Working together to deliver these awards makes our airports safer and more efficient for all aviation staff, customers, and the businesses that rely on them. Together we are creating a standard of excellence that will help our region thrive for all the generations to come.” Called Northwest Ohio’s “gateway to business and community,” Defiance County Memorial Airport has been undergoing many improvements over recent years to enhance its infrastructure. Today’s $192,887 investment will help the airport complete the final phase of reconstructing 1,091 square yards of East Apron pavement that has reached the end of its useful life. The Put-in-Bay Airport is located on South Bass Island and services both small commercial carriers and private aviators carrying freight or vacationers to the area. Its $96,710 award will help the airport conduct an airport-wide obstruction survey for the purpose of collecting detailed aeronautical and environmental data. Comprehensive data will make landing and takeoff safer and can help with future airport planning. These new federal investments build on previous awards to airports across our Northwest Ohio region in recent years. In July of this year, Congresswoman Kaptur secured over $3.67 Million for Toledo-area airports and over $7.8 Million for three Northwest Ohio regional airports, including Erie-Ottawa International Airport, Toledo Executive Airport, and Fulton County Airport . On May 18th, Congresswoman Kaptur announced a $1.4 Million Award for Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport . On May 12th, 2026, Congresswoman Kaptur announced over $1 Million in federal investment for infrastructure improvements at Williams County Regional Airport, Defiance Memorial Airport, and Sandusky County Regional Airport . # # # Issues : Trade Jobs and the Economy
