Cassidy Helps Deliver TAX Relief for Louisianans HIT by Winter Storm

WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) applauded the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for extending the tax filing deadlines for Louisianans effected by Winter Storm Fern. This announcement comes after Cassidyurgedthe IRS to do so. These taxpayers now have until March 31, 2026, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.
“Families and small businesses are still recovering. Now they have breathing room to do so before worrying about taxes,”said Dr. Cassidy.

Widespread power outages and business disruptions—particularly in Louisiana—occurred just ahead of critical IRS reporting deadlines, making timely compliance difficult or impossible for many taxpayers. Cassidypushedto extend the deadline for affected families and businesses.
Cassidy, alongside all members of Louisiana’s congressional delegation, alsoexpressedsupport for Governor Jeff Landry’s request for an expedited federal Major Disaster declaration following Winter Storm Fern, which impacted Louisiana from January 23–27, 2026, causing widespread power outages, road closures, and water system disruptions across northern Louisiana.
