Washington, DC– Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement: “This Administration knows that their attack on birthright citizenship is in direct violation of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution. Rather than try to defend that illegitimate case, they have set their sights on weakening the court system by limiting the power of nationwide injunctions. Donald Trump has already made clear that he intends to use today’s Supreme Court ruling to support his xenophobic regime, throwing the lives of thousands of Americans into chaos and uncertainty.  What’s more, I fear that this decision will open the door for a White House bent on consolidating power to behave with increasing lawlessness at the expense of our democracy.”
