Congresswoman Simon Votes Against Republican National Defense Authorization Act
July 23, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) voted against H.R. 8800, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2027, and she released the following statement afterwards: “I voted HELL NO on the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act. Our national security depends on more than military strength. It depends on whether families can afford housing, access healthcare, send their children to good schools, and live with dignity and opportunity. “Real security means investing in people. We owe our servicemembers the resources they need to do their jobs safely, but we should never use an annual defense bill to advance a divisive political agenda that undermines civil rights, attacks vulnerable communities, or erodes the freedoms we are sworn to protect.” ### Issues : Foreign Policy
