Sen. Rick Scott Celebrates Raúl Castro Indictment and Justice for the Cuban People May 20, 2026 WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Rick Scott hosted a press conference with U.S. Reps. Byron Donalds, Maria Salazar, and Carlos Giménez to discuss the U.S. Department of Justice’s indictment of illegitimate Cuban regime leader, Raúl Castro, and what comes next for the people of Cuba. I want to thank Secretary Rubio for doing this. I want to thank them for the sanctions they put on… and now what they are doing here to make sure we starve the regime of resources, and we sanction them for the despicable acts they take… The path we’re going down has the opportunity for success, the opportunity for the people of Cuba finally, after decades, to pick their own future. [The United States] has been the beacon of hope for Latin America.” The Trump administration indicted Castro on charges of conspiracy to kill U.S. nationals, two counts of destruction of aircraft, and four counts of murder. The charges were made in relation to the Feb. 24, 1996, shoot-down of two unarmed U.S. civilian aircraft operated by Brothers to the Rescue, also known as Hermanos al Rescate, over international waters. ### https://www.rickscott.senate.gov/2026/5/sen-rick-scott-celebrates-ra-l-castro-indictment-and-justice-for-the-cuban-people
