Reps. Houchin and Brownley Introduce National Learning Disabilities Awareness Month Resolution
October 8, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON— Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) and Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26) introduced a resolution recognizing October 2026 as National Learning Disabilities Awareness Month. Observed annually in October, National Learning Disabilities Awareness Month raises public awareness of learning disabilities, promotes early and accurate diagnoses, and highlights the importance of ensuring individuals have access to the resources, tools, and support they need to succeed in school, the workplace, and their communities. “Students with learning disabilities too often fall through the cracks of our education system. That’s why I am proud to recognize National Learning Disabilities Awareness Month alongside Congresswoman Brownley,” said Rep. Houchin. “Every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, and that starts with identifying learning disabilities as early as possible. This year, I introduced the New IDEA Act, which would clarify the pathways for schools to identify and provide accommodations for students with specific learning disabilities, and help students receive the instruction they need.” “Having a learning disability should never stand in the way of a person’s ability to pursue their goals and achieve success,” said Rep. Brownley. “I began my career in public service to ensure that individuals like my daughter, who has dyslexia, have access to the resources and tools that empower them to learn and grow with confidence. I am grateful for Congresswoman Houchin’s partnership in recognizing National Learning Disabilities Awareness Month as we work to foster positive and supportive learning environments and improve learning outcomes and lived experiences for people with learning disabilities.” The full text of the resolution can be found here .
