Iowa Transit to Receive Over $82 Million from Grassley-Backed Infrastructure Bill

BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA –U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) welcomed an announcement from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) that Iowa will receive $82,144,823 to support transit improvements across the state. The awards will be administered through DOT’s Buses & Bus Facilities Program and the Low- or No-Emission Program, which both received funding through the Grassley-backedInfrastructure Investment and Jobs Act(IIJA).
“I voted for the bipartisan infrastructure bill with Iowa’s future in mind, and it’s good to see the law continue its strong return on investment. By authorizing these grants, the Trump administration is helping provide efficient and reliable travel options for Iowans,”Grassley said.
Award Details:
The Iowa Department of Transportation will receive$27,834,685for the Iowa Bus Replacement Program to buy new buses and vans, replacing older vehicles for 14 of Iowa's transit systems.
The Iowa Department of Transportation will receive$19,892,534for the Iowa Low-No Project to replace older buses and to construct or expand three bus facilities.
The Ames Transit Agency (CyRide) will receive$14,648,686for the Biodiesel and Facility Expansion Project to expand its administrative, maintenance and bus storage facility.
Iowa City Transit will receive$8,665,485for its Driving Economic Opportunity with Replacement Heavy Duty Fixed-Route and Paratransit Vehicles program to purchase diesel and paratransit buses, replacing older buses.
The University of Iowa will receive$6,171,174for the CAMBUS Hybrid Bus Project to buy new diesel-electric hybrid buses to replace aging buses to continue providing safe, efficient and reliable transportation.
The Regional Metropolitan Transit Authority of Omaha (Metro) will receive$4,932,259for the Promoting Sustainability Through Low Emission Vehicles Program to buy new CNG buses to replace older diesel buses that have reached the end of their useful life.
