Shaheen Statement on Passage of Continuing Resolution to Avoid Government Shutdown in Fall

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee , released the following statement after voting to advance the continuing resolution to keep the government open through December: “I’m relieved that the Senate came together to pass a continuing resolution on an overwhelming bipartisan basis that will avoid a government shutdown in the fall that would hurt Granite Staters. While stop-gap funding bills can create inefficiencies within government that sow uncertainty in the economy, this step represents a reasonable path forward that will allow time for Republicans and Democrats to reach an agreement on a realistic appropriations package that works for the American people. “Americans want us to work together to solve problems and make their lives better. When we return to Congress in September, I remain committed to working in good faith alongside my colleagues to deliver spending packages that invest in our states and communities and provide the long-term certainty they need.” ###
