Tlaib Statement on Supreme Court Gutting Voting Rights Act
Resources / Press Share on Tlaib Statement on Supreme Court Gutting Voting Rights Act Apr 29, 2026 Press WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais : “Today, the corrupt, far-right Supreme Court gutted what’s left of the Voting Rights Act, clearing the way for Republicans to silence Black and brown communities and dismantle majority-minority districts across our country. This decision is an assault on our democracy that will allow blatant discrimination, disenfranchising millions of Americans. Our civil rights leaders bled and died for the Voting Rights Act in the fight for representation in Congress. The Supreme Court’s ruling is a devastating blow to the decades of progress we have made to give Black Americans representation in the People’s House. I will continue fighting to expand and reform this unhinged, undemocratic Supreme Court immediately and protect the voting rights our leaders gave their lives for.” ### Share on
