ICYMI: In Phoenix, Kelly Meets with Arizona Service Academy Appointees
In case you missed it, Arizona Senator and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) alum Mark Kelly met with nine Arizona students he nominated to the nation’s military service academies—West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy—who have accepted their appointments for the Class of 2030.
Kelly, who graduated from USMMA in 1986 and went on to serve 25 years in the U.S. Navy before becoming an astronaut, is the first USMMA alumnus ever to serve in Congress and currentlyservesas Vice Chair of the USMMA Board of Visitors. Kelly congratulated the appointees and their families, reflecting on how his own academy appointment launched a career that took him around the world, and above it.
