ICYMI: Houchin Helps Secure $7.9 Million Grant to Improve Madison Infrastructure Safety
November 2, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON— Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) helped secure a $7.9 million federal grant to improve the safety and reliability of the Madison Railroad, following her letter of support to Federal Railroad Administration Administrator David Fink on behalf of the City of Madison Port Authority. The City of Madison Port Authority was recently awarded a $7,915,813 grant through the Federal Railroad Administration’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program. This funding will address critical safety concerns along seven miles of the century-old Madison Railroad, helping preserve and improve a vital piece of infrastructure. “Indiana is the Crossroads of America, and the Madison Railroad is an important part of the infrastructure that keeps our economy moving,” said Rep. Houchin. “I was proud to support the Madison Port Authority’s application and help bring this significant investment to Madison. This funding will address critical safety needs and help ensure this historic railroad can serve Southern Indiana for another century. I thank Administrator Fink and the Federal Railroad Administration for recognizing the importance of this project.” BACKGROUND: Letter from Rep.
