Rep. Nancy Mace Supports $490,000 Grant To Expand College Opportunities For Lowcountry Students

September 21, 2026 Press Release Funding to expand college access and workforce readiness for nearly 1,000 Lowcountry students CHARLESTON, S.C., (Sept. 21, 2026) – Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) today announced a $490,000 federal grant for Trident Technical College's Talent Search Program, helping expand college and career opportunities for 980 students annually across Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. The grant will support students in Charleston County School District, Berkeley County School District, and Dorchester School District Four by providing long-term academic and career advising, financial aid assistance, and postsecondary planning beginning in middle school. The program is designed to serve low-income and first-generation students, helping them overcome barriers to higher education and prepare for successful careers. "Every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or zip code," said Congresswoman Mace. "This grant will help nearly 1,000 Lowcountry students gain the tools, guidance, and support they need to pursue higher education, develop workforce skills, and build brighter futures. Earlier this year, Congresswoman Mace submitted a letter of support for Trident Technical College's application, emphasizing the program's proven success in helping low-income and first-generation students prepare for college and careers through academic advising, financial aid assistance, career exploration, and postsecondary planning. The Talent Search Program is one of the federal TRIO programs designed to increase postsecondary enrollment and completion by providing students with the resources and support needed to succeed in higher education.
