This project, which is supported by $2.3 million in federal funding that Senator Rosen secured, will create a permanent facility for WNC’s rural nursing cohort. Currently, many Fallon nursing students have to travel to Carson City to complete their required coursework. The new facility will include modern clinical training areas, advanced simulation labs, and dedicated study and testing rooms so Fallon students can complete the classes they need on the Fallon campus. “Nevada is facing a dire shortage of nurses, especially in rural communities – which limits access to care for Nevadans,” said Senator Rosen. “One way to address this problem is by training more nurses in Nevada, and it was great to see the progress being made on Western Nevada College’s Fallon Rural Nursing Expansion so local students can get their education closer to home. I was proud to secure funding to support this project, and I’ll continue working in the Senate to address the medical professional shortage.” In the Senate, Senator Rosen has prioritized addressing the shortage of medical professionals to ensure every Nevadan has access to care. In addition to the funding she secured for WNC’s Fallon project, Senator Rosen helped secure $4.3 million to support a nursing lab expansion at WNC’s Douglas Campus. Her bipartisan Train More Nurses Act would help increase faculty at nursing school – especially in underserved areas – and increase pathways for Licensed Practical Nurses to become Registered Nurses.
