Rep. Wilson and AKA’s Gamma Zeta Omega Chapter Present the 10th Annual Pumps, Pearls and Politics® LIVE Fireside Chat

October 7, 2026 Press Release Don Lemon to Moderate a Conversation with Angie Nixon and David Jolly on Florida’s Future MIAMI GARDENS, FL — October 8, 2026 — Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson, in collaboration with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Gamma Zeta Omega Chapter, will present the 10th Annual Pumps, Pearls and Politics® LIVE Fireside Chat, marking a decade of bringing the community face-to-face with leaders to discuss the decisions shaping their lives and Florida’s future. For ten years, Pumps, Pearls and Politics® has placed community voices at the center of the conversation. This milestone gathering continues that tradition, giving residents an opportunity to ask direct questions, hear directly from candidates, and take an informed role in the decisions that affect their families. Don Lemon, award-winning independent journalist and founder of Lemon Media Network, will moderate the conversation featuring Angie Nixon, candidate for the United States Senate in Florida, and David Jolly, candidate for Governor of Florida. “Long before I served in Congress, I stood in classrooms filled with children whose futures depended on whether the people in power cared enough to act,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “As a teacher, principal, and school board member, I learned that every policy has a human face. It is the child who needs a better school, the mother struggling to pay her bills, the senior choosing between groceries and medicine. Those are the people who deserve answers. For ten years, Pumps, Pearls and Politics® has given our community a place to raise our voices and demand them. Florida’s future belongs to its people, and we must help shape it!” The event will take place Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Florida. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the Fireside Chat begins promptly at 5:00 p.m. A livestream will be available for virtual attendees. “Midterm elections are where many of the most consequential decisions are made,” said Barbara Dent, Chairman of Pumps, Pearls and Politics®. “We want every voter to feel that their voices are heard, informed, and empowered.” Collaborating Partners: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; United Teachers of Dade; Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce; Florida A&M University NAA Miami-South Dade Chapter; Miami-Dade Democratic Party; South Florida Mosaic Miami, FL; The Links, Inc.
