Gillibrand Statement Ahead Of Trump Rally In Rockland County
Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released the following statement ahead of President Trump’s visit to Rockland County tomorrow afternoon: “Tomorrow, while Trump rallies in New York, families around our state and nation are making painful choices — cutting back on groceries and struggling to make ends meet because of his reckless tariffs and endless war. “New Yorkers don’t need a rally; they need relief. Trump has spent his time in office cutting healthcare, driving up prices, and enriching himself at the expense of working families. “Instead of helping New Yorkers struggling to fill their gas tanks, Trump is profiting off of stock trades timed to his own policy announcements, fighting for a billion-dollar party ballroom, and creating slush funds to pay violent criminals and con men. “It doesn’t matter what Trump says tomorrow. New Yorkers are suffering because of what he’s done to them and their families: Higher costs, a gutted healthcare system, and a president more focused on his own bottom line than on the people he was elected to serve.” The Negative Impact of Trump’s Reckless Policies on Rockland County, NY: MORE EXPENSIVE GAS: On January 20, 2025, regular unleaded gas prices in Rockland County, NY averaged $3.37 per gallon. Today, regular unleaded gas in Rockland County averages $4.76 per gallon. That’s a 41% increase . LESS HEALTHCARE: Thanks to President Trump’s Big Beautiful Betrayal, it is estimated that 7,544 Rockland County residents are losing subsidized state health insurance coverage through New York’s Essential Plan. HUNGRIER FAMILIES : 19,000 Rockland households, comprising 54,562 children and adults, were left without SNAP benefits during Trump’s government shutdown in Fall 2025. MEDICAID CUTS: Nearly 150,000 Rockland County residents are Medicaid recipients, and their care is on the line. In all of NY-17, 25,925 Medicaid recipients are expected to lose their coverage. ###
