Ernst, Cloud Stamp Out EV Waste at Postal Service

WASHIGNTON – U.S. Senate DOGE Caucus Chair Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Representative Michael Cloud (R-Texas) are introducing theReturn to Sender Actto terminate and claw back$3 billion authorized in the so-calledInflation Reduction Actto help build an electric vehicle (EV) fleet for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).
While theinitial order for 50,000 truckswas placed three years ago, fewer than 100 trucks have been deliveredas delays and cost increases were allowed to run rampant in this boondoggle.
“Biden’s EV postal fleet is lost in the mail. The order needs to be canceled with the unspent money returned to sender, the taxpayers,”said Ernst.“I am defunding this billion-dollar boondoggle to stamp out waste in Washington. Tax dollars should always be treated with first class priority.”
"The Biden administration’s so-calledInflation Reduction Actfunneled billions into a failed USPS EV project that has delivered nothing but delays, defective trucks, and skyrocketing costs,"said Cloud."Three years later, taxpayers are still waiting while the Postal Service refuses to provide basic transparency on where the money went. TheReturn to Sender Acttakes back the $3 billion in taxpayer money that has been wasted in this project."

Background:
Because of its ballooning cost and delays, the USPS EV project wasfeaturedas one of the worst government boondoggles when Ernst introduced herBillion Dollar Boondoggle Actthat will require the disclosure of any government project that is $1 billion over budget or five years behind schedule.
