Kelly Statement on Latest Drone Incidents Near Mexican Border
Kelly has worked on the
Border Drone Threat Assessment Act
to fight drug cartels and improve collaboration between government agencies
Today, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly released the following statement after a
second incident this month
related to drone activity near the Mexican border led to airspace closure:
“When bad actors like cartels gain access to drone technology, the U.S. government must have a clear coordination plan to protect the country if it ever becomes necessary. After yesterday’s incident in Texas, it’s clear there is a problem and the need to address it is urgent.
“My Border Drone Threat Assessment Act will improve our threat response by clearing up roles, authorities, and coordination procedures across responsible agencies. This will prevent errors like the ones we’ve seen this month that cause chaos and put border communities at risk. I’ll continue working in Congress to get this bill passed and keep Americans safe.”
