Rep. Fischbach Cosponsors Legislation to Demand Election Transparency

WASHINGTON, D.C . - Representative Michelle Fischbach (MN-07) joined Representatives Pete Stauber (MN-08), Brad Finstad (MN-01), and Tom Emmer (MN-06) in introducing the Voter Voucher Transparency Act, which would establish federal reporting standards for voter vouching practices. Under current Minnesota election law, an individual attempting to vote on Election Day can have a registered voter "vouch" for their resident status. A single registered voter can vouch for up to eight individuals, and employees at residential facilities can vouch for unlimited residents. The Voter Voucher Transparency Act would create a standardized federal reporting system requiring states to collect and publish voter-vouching data, including the total number of individuals registered using a voucher, the total number of voters serving as vouchers, the number of individuals vouched for by each voucher, and the number of denied vouching attempts and reasons for denial. In a statement following the introduction of this bill, Congresswoman Fischbach highlighted the need for accountability and transparency in federal elections: “Election integrity is essential to maintaining public trust in our elections,” said Rep. Fischbach. “Minnesotans deserve full transparency when it comes to how elections are administered. By establishing clear reporting requirements for voter vouching, this legislation gives Congress and the public the data needed to protect our election system and ensure that only eligible citizens participate in federal elections.” This legislation follows scrutiny of state election administration practices, including federal requests for records on Minnesota's voter identity verification systems. By establishing clear tracking metrics, the Voter Voucher Transparency Act strengthens oversight and visibility into election procedures nationwide.
