STATEMENT: Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester to Oppose DHS Funding Bill
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released the following statement on the upcoming appropriations minibus under consideration by the Senate this week, which includes funding for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
“The images we’ve seen of ICE and federal officers tearing families apart and using lethal force on American citizens are shameful and disturbing. Minnesotans, and all Americans, have been made less safe by ICE’s reckless and unlawful behavior. Their occupation in Minnesota is harmful, unnecessary, and needs to end immediately.
“I refuse to support this current package of funding bills as federal agents shoot Americans in the street. There must be a comprehensive investigation into today’s events and ICE agents must be immediately withdrawn from Minneapolis to allow law enforcement to do its job.”
