Ahead of Upcoming USMCA Review, Cortez Masto Pushes for Inclusion of Her Bipartisan Bills to Support Travel, Tourism, and Supply Chain Security
Washington, D.C. –Ahead of the July 2026reviewof the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) sent a letter to U.S. Trade Ambassador Greer highlighting Nevada’s priorities and pushing for the inclusion of two of herbipartisanbills. In the letter, she urges Ambassador Greer to focus on actions that will strengthen the trade agreement while encouraging more collaboration on travel and tourism, as well as on actions to curb the risk of investments by the Chinese Communist Party in North American supply chains.
“The USMCA governs America’s trading relationships with our two largest trading partners, Canada and Mexico, together accounting for nearly $2 trillion in annual goods and services trade and supporting millions of American jobs. Last year, I surveyed Nevada businesses and workers about the USMCA and found that feedback was overwhelmingly positive,”said the Senator.“There was broad consensus that the agreement supported jobs in the U.S. as well as helped diversify away from China while maintaining access to key export markets. Respondents also felt strongly that failure to support USMCA would undermine U.S. growth and impair investment. I agree.”
The Senator goes on to push for the creation of a formal Travel and Tourism Trade Working Group under the USMCA, which sheproposedearlier this year in bipartisan legislation Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kansas).“The [U.S. travel and tourism] industry is under stress…including a 26 percent decline in Canadian visitors alone,”she said.“For tourism-dependent states like Nevada, these losses translate directly into reduced economic activity, layoffs in the hospitality and service sectors, and diminished tax revenues.”A formal USMCA travel and tourism working group would provide a dedicated, trilateral venue to reduce cross-border travel barriers, coordinate visa and entry policies, harmonize traveler-facing regulations, and promote North America as a tourism destination.
In the letter, the Senator also calls for the inclusion of herbipartisanProtecting the USMCA from Harmful Chinese Investment Actin the upcoming USMCA joint review. Her bill with Senator McCormick (R-Pa.) would direct the U.S. Trade Representative to prioritize North American alignment on foreign investment screening by ensuring Canada and Mexico work with the U.S. to curb the risk of investment from China.“I urge USTR to incorporate [my bill] as a formal joint review negotiating objective and to elevate investment security throughout the review process”she concluded.
