Congresswoman Lee Statement Against Legislation to Make it More Difficult for Millions of U.S. Citizens to Vote

April 10, 2025 Press Release WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) released the following statement after voting against extreme legislation that would make it more difficult for millions of U.S. citizens to vote: “This legislation is another attack on women’s rights and American’s constitutional right to vote. “Under the guise of protecting elections, the SAVE Act will prohibit Americans who’ve changed their names, like married women, from using their birth certificates as proof of citizenship when registering to vote. This bill also makes it illegal for Americans to use military IDs or tribal IDs when registering to vote — a barrier that will bar many U.S. citizens, including those who put their lives on the line for our freedom, from voting in our elections. “It will put millions of U.S. citizens at risk of having their names removed from state voter rolls. It will gut mail and online voter registration in states like Nevada. “I’ve repeatedly supported legislation to prevent noncitizens from voting, but this legislation will make it nearly impossible for millions of American citizens to register to vote.” ###
