CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Chairman of the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) Appropriations Subcommittee, visited CAMC Memorial Hospital, joining U.S. Senator Jim Justice (R-W.Va.) and Vandalia Health in celebrating a $15,000,000 Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award, which Senator Capito helped secure in Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26). This funding will support major upgrades to technical infrastructure and cybersecurity technology across CAMC’s South Region. “It is great to be in Charleston today, celebrating such a wonderful achievement. This CDS award represents a significant investment in the strength of our hospital network, prioritizing the safety, care, and privacy of patients,” Senator Capito said. “This announcement would not be possible without the hard work of our wonderful leaders at CAMC and Vandalia Health, who worked with us to make this possible. I am proud to use my role on the Senate Appropriations Committee as Chairman of the Labor-HHS Subcommittee to continue delivering for West Virginia.” “Taking care of West Virginians starts with making sure our hospitals have the tools to do the job right. This $15 million will help Vandalia Health and CAMC make critical upgrades to its equipment and technology, strengthen its infrastructure, and put better protections in place to keep patients’ personal health information out of the hands of bad actors. This is a win for Vandalia Health, a win for Charleston, and most importantly, a win for patients and families,” Senator Justice said. “We are grateful for the funding of these critical projects allowing Vandalia Health to upgrade equipment for technical infrastructure and enhance cybersecurity,” Jeff Sandene, Vandalia Health President and CEO said . “Thank you for this significant investment and support in strengthening healthcare in the communities we serve.” Photos from the event are included below: U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) celebrates the CDS award to CAMC with U.S. Senator Jim Justice and local healthcare leaders in Charleston, W.Va. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
