Shaheen Continues “Affordability Action Tour”: Highlights Harmful Impacts of Trump’s Tariffs at Coffee Shop in Concord, Discusses Impacts of Health Care Cuts in Big Beautiful Betrayal at Health Center in Plymouth

(Plymouth, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) continued her “Affordability Action Tour” by visiting a coffee shop in Concord to highlight how tariffs are raising the costs of everyday goods and touring Mid-State Health Center in Plymouth to underscore the impacts of Republican-led cuts to health care on Granite Staters.Photos from today’s events can be foundHERE.
In Concord, Shaheen visited the Brothers' Cortado coffee shop to highlight the harmful impacts of President Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Granite State businesses. The coffee shop sources its beans from around the world, including Latin America and Africa. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, coffee prices are up 14.5% compared to July of last year. Coffee prices are expected to rise even more now that the administration has placed a 50% tariff on the U.S.’s largest supplier of coffee, Brazil.“New Hampshire’s small businesses are run locally – they're owned by members of the community and are the backbone of our state’s economy,”said Senator Shaheen.“It’s really concerning that nearly every small business I’ve visited recently has been forced to increase costs because of President Trump’s tariffs. For coffee shops like Brothers' Cortado, the administration’s tariffs are putting new burdens on their bottom-line because we can’t grow enough coffee domestically.”
Senator Shaheen is helpinglead effortsin Congress to mitigate the harmful impacts of President Trump's tariffs. Recently, Shaheen took to theSenate floor to call for unanimous consentto pass herProtecting Americans from Tax Hikes on Imported Goods Actand highlight the devastating impacts the trade war has on families, small businesses, American manufacturing and key trade partnerships across the world, but Senate Republicans blocked the move. Last month, Shaheenhelped introduce bipartisan legislation,Creating Access to Necessary American-Canadian Duty Adjustments (CANADA) Act, that would exempt United States-owned small businesses from the sweeping tariffs imposed on Canadian products. Last month, Shaheen led 30 Senators infiling an amicus briefin a key case, Oregon v. Department of Homeland Security, challenging the Trump Administration’s abuse of emergency powers to impose tariffs.???

Later, in Plymouth, Shaheen toured Mid-State Health Center's newest facility, which was made possible by federal funding, and met with Mid-State's leadership and board members to hear more about how the facility will be impacted by Republican-backed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. Under the “Big Beautiful Betrayal” that President Trump signed into law, health care costs are expected to skyrocket while 15 million Americans are expected to lose health care coverage—including more than 46,000 Granite Staters.
“I was pleased to visit Mid-State Health Center’s new diagnostic health center—a critical facility for the Plymouth area,”said Senator Shaheen.“Like every health care facility I’ve visited since Republicans in Congress led devastating cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, Mid-State is concerned about how these changes will impact their ability to deliver accessible and affordable health care. We need to do everything possible to help them address these challenges so that they can continue to provide health care in the community.”
