Barr Mourns Murder of Army Hero, Again Backs Trump’s Travel Ban
Lexington, KY— U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) released the following statement after the tragic murder of Army National Guardsman, Specialist Sarah Beckstrom: “I join all Kentuckians and Americans in mourning the murder of Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom. Our troops deserve support — not reckless Democrat claims that they’re following “illegal orders,” putting a target on their backs. “President Trump is right to pause immigration from countries we can’t vet. As I’ve said repeatedly , “If we can’t vet them, they don’t belong here.” That’s why I voted against Biden’s $6 billion Afghan resettlement package that rushed unvetted arrivals into the country. President Trump is cleaning up Biden’s mess and I fully support him.” In September of 2021, Barr voted against H.R. 5305, which Joe Biden later signed into law. This bill provided $6.3B in emergency funding to support resettlement and support services for unvetted Afghan refugees. It also made refugees eligible for certain entitlement programs. Barr was joined in voting NO on this law by then-Senator Marco Rubio, Congressman Mike Waltz, and Congressman Lee Zeldin. ###
