Scott, Booker Sickle CELL Awareness Resolution Passes the Senate

WASHINGTON— A resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) designating September 2025 as Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month unanimously passed the Senate.
“The passage of this resolution represents our commitment to supporting thousands of patients and families affected by this disorder in South Carolina and nationwide,”said Senator Scott.“By raising awareness about sickle cell disease and the lifechanging gene therapies that are now available to cure this debilitating disease, we can help improve the chances of early diagnosis and proper treatment.”
“Countless Americans and their loved ones have been impacted by sickle cell disease, the most common inherited blood disorder in our country,”said Senator Booker.“The unanimous passage of this resolution designating September as Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month recognizes our shared commitment in Congress to eliminating barriers to comprehensive, high quality care and improving outcomes for those suffering from SCD.”
Joining Scott and Booker, the resolution was cosponsored by Senators James Lankford (R-Okla.), Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Amy Klobouchar (D-Minn.), and Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.).

BACKGROUND
Earlier this year, Senators Scott and Booker reintroduced theSickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act, which would allow state Medicaid programs to provide comprehensive care to SCD patients through a health home model.
Senators Scott and Booker also led the reauthorization of theSickle Cell Treatment Demonstration Programleading to the improvement of clinician knowledge, improvement in care and development of best practices surrounding diagnosis and long-term treatment.
