Walkinshaw Moves to Block Trump-Putin Diesel Deal That Would Bankroll Russia’s War
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman James R. Walkinshaw (VA-11), a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Military and Foreign Affairs, announced he is cosponsoring the Prohibit Corrupt Russia Oil Deals Act , bipartisan legislation introduced by Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, to block President Trump’s deal to purchase and import Russian diesel. “Americans struggling with rising costs should not be asked to bankroll Vladimir Putin’s war machine,” said Congressman Walkinshaw . “Putin is a war criminal who has devastated Ukrainian families and sent Russians to die in his war of aggression. Ukraine is a trusted partner of the United States, and its people deserve our support. Trump’s Russian diesel deal rewards Putin for prolonging this war. I’m joining this bipartisan legislation to block that deal, deny Putin revenue to fund his attacks, and help Ukraine secure a just and lasting peace.” The legislation would: Prohibit the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation from investing in Russian energy. Revoke Treasury Department licenses allowing the Russian energy transactions targeted by the bill and prohibit future licenses. Require the Trump administration to impose sanctions on Russian energy.
