Rosen Helps Introduce Sweeping Legislation to Reverse Damage from Trump Administration’s Egregious Assault on Veterans

WASHINGTON, DC –Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped introduce a bill to fight back against President Donald Trump’s mass terminations of federal veteran employees and egregious attempts to slash Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) care and benefits. ThePutting Veterans First Actwould protect veterans, military spouses, and VA employees indiscriminately targeted in the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) cuts at VA and across the federal government. This week, a federal judge blocked these firings and ordered employees to be rehired — a ruling which likely will be appealed. This bill would permanently reverse the firings.
“It’s outrageous that Donald Trump and Elon Musk recklessly fired veterans, and those who care for them, for absolutely no reason,”said Senator Rosen.“These selfless, hardworking men and women deserve respect and should’ve never been treated this way. That’s why I’m proud to help introduce this bill to reverse these terminations, grant full back pay and benefits, and protect our veterans and those who provide them with the care they deserve.”
Senator Rosen has been fighting back against attacks on the VA and its employees who serve veterans. This week, shesent a letterurging Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins to immediately and permanently reverse the Trump Administration’s terminations of VA employees in Nevada for “poor performance” despite their evaluations showing otherwise. Last week, Rosenspokeon the Senate floor to demand the reversal of layoffs at the VA. In a previous letter, shedemandedthe VA reinstate every veteran illegally fired in mass terminations andcalled onthe VA to provide answers regarding mass employee terminations. Senator Rosen alsourgedthe VA to take immediate action to secure veterans’ personal information provided by VA or other agencies to Elon Musk.
