Cleghorn’s winning piece, “God’s Country,” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for the next year alongside artwork from students across the country. “Congratulations to Sierra for winning this year’s competition,” said Rep. Nunn . “‘God’s Country’ captures both the beauty of our nation and the values that make America special. I’m proud Sierra’s work will represent our state in the halls of the U.S. Capitol for the next year.” Established in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition provides high school students from across the country the opportunity to showcase their artistic talent. More than 650,000 students participated nationwide, with each Member of Congress selecting one winning submission from their district to be displayed in Washington, D.C. for one year.
