Hickenlooper Statement on DHS Funding Deal

WASHINGTON –Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following statement after the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bill to pay TSA agents and fund FEMA without sending any new money to ICE:
“The Republicans accepted what we offered weeks ago: pay TSA workers without a single dime for ICE. But the fight does not stop here. ICE is still out of control: agents hiding behind masks, ignoring warrants, and answering to no one. We won’t give up until this agency is totally overhauled.”
After President Trump and Republicans have refused to implement any commonsense reforms to ICE, Hickenlooper voted ten times in recent weeks to pay TSA agents, pay Coast Guard officers, and fund FEMA.
Hickenlooper called on Secretary Noem toresignfollowing the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, andvoted noon Secretary Mullin’s nomination after Secretary Noem wasfiredby President Trump. He has beenoutspokenin the face of ICE’s lawlessness anddemandeda top-to-bottom overhaul of the agency to stop ICE from terrorizing our communities.
He has consistently pushed for moreoversightandtransparencyfor federal immigration enforcement efforts, and has worked to help families desperately searching for loved ones arrested by ICE. In January, Hickenlooperspokeon the Senate floor to denounce the horrifying killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, condemnthe reportsthat families in Eagle County found “death cards” left in the cars of family members taken by ICE agents, and to demand the overhaul of ICE. He’sshownupat ICE facilities to conductcongressional oversight visitsand raise concerns about ICE disregarding due process.
Hickenlooper helpedlaunchan investigation into ICE’s unlawful obstruction of congressional oversight and introduced bills tobanICE from wearing masks,preventimmigration enforcement from targeting schools, hospitals, polling locations, and places of worship, and cut back the excessive funding that MAGA Republicans gave them.
