Krishnamoorthi Applauds Supreme Court Ruling Blocking Trump’s USPS Voter Suppression Scheme

September 15, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court rejected the Trump Administration’s latest attempt to enforce new U.S. Postal Service restrictions on mail ballots, leaving in place a federal court order blocking the policy ahead of the November elections: “Donald Trump tried to turn the Postal Service into an instrument of voter suppression, and the Supreme Court stopped him. The President has no authority to rewrite our election laws or give USPS the power to decide which eligible Americans receive a ballot. The Postal Service has one job here: deliver the ballots, not decide who gets to vote.” Krishnamoorthi has repeatedly challenged the Trump Administration’s efforts to use USPS to restrict mail voting, threatening to subpoena Postmaster General David Steiner in June and later demanding that USPS publicly commit to complying with court orders blocking the restrictions . In August, he urged the Postal Service Board of Governors to remove Steiner , and earlier this month he demanded answers after a USPS whistleblower alleged officials were continuing to implement the restrictions despite court orders .
