Peters Secures Federal Funding to Improve Public Safety, Emergency Response in Southeast Michigan

WASHINGTON, DC –As a member of the Appropriations Committee, U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) secured federal funding for Southeast Michigan communities in bipartisan legislation recently signed into law. TheAgriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Actprovides new, full year funding for the federal agencies and programs covered by the bill, including funding to support local first responders and improve emergency response efforts.Peters helped craft and advance this bipartisan bill out of the Appropriations Committee.
“First responders put their lives on the line to keep our residents and families safe,”said Senator Peters, a member of the Appropriations Committee. “I was proud to secure these investments that will provide local emergency response agencies with the resources needed to protect our communities.”
The bill includes resources secured by Peters for high-impact, local public projects in Southeast Michigan, including:
New Fire Engine for the City of Berkley: The bill would provide $385,000 to replace the City of Berkley’s primary front-line fire engine responsible for responding to fire and vehicle extraction emergencies.
New Fire Engine for the City of Rockwood: The bill would provide $765,000 for the City of Rockwood to purchase a new fire engine to help strengthen its fire response for the community.
