EAU CLAIRE and LA CROSSE, WI — U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) , a member of the Senate Finance Committee and Senate Agriculture Committee , will travel to western Wisconsin next week to discuss how Washington can better serve rural communities. On Friday, June 5 th , Senator Welch will host a health care roundtable in Eau Claire focused on how Wisconsinites and rural communities across America will be harmed by Republicans’ tax bill, which slashed Medicaid funding, hurt patients, and threatened rural hospitals. He will also discuss the need to extend the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) premium tax credits, which helped more than 278,000 working Wisconsinites and their families access health coverage—including more than 24,000 people in western and central Wisconsin. Senator Welch will be joined by patients, doctors and nurses, and community members. Later that afternoon in the La Crosse area, Senator Welch will meet with farmers to discuss the Farm Bill and his legislation to support small and family-sized farms.
