Hickenlooper, Rosen, Senate Democrats Demand Supreme Court Protect Birthright Citizenship Against Trump Attacks

WASHINGTON –
U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper, Jacky Rosen, and 24 of their Senate colleagues
urged
the U.S. Supreme Court to protect birthright citizenship and strike down President Trump’s unconstitutional attempts to undermine it.
“Birthright citizenship is written in our Constitution. The President’s senseless attempts to erase it runs counter to our nation’s values,”
said Hickenlooper.
“We won’t stand for it and nor should the Supreme Court.”
“The U.S. Constitution is clear: children born in the United States are American citizens,”
said Rosen.
“We’re submitting this brief requesting that the Supreme Court upholds the Constitution and puts an end to Donald Trump’s illegal attempt to revoke citizenship from children born in the United States once and for all.”
Alongside colleagues from the House of Representatives, the senators filed an amicus brief in Trump v. Barbara, currently before the Supreme Court. The oral arguments are scheduled for April 1, in which they will argue that Trump’s Executive Order to strip automatic citizenship from children born in the United States violates the U.S. Constitution, over a century of Supreme Court rulings, and laws enacted by Congress.
Hickenlooper has consistently
spoken
out against the
President’s Executive Order
that attempts to revoke automatic citizenship for children born in the United States.
