Daines Introduces Bill to Support and Expand Quantum Research

U.S. SENATE –U.S. Senator Steve Daines today introduced the National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act to support quantum research programs in Montana and across the nation. The bill reauthorizes Daines’ 2018 National Quantum Initiative Act through 2034, which expands research and development programs for quantum and photonics.
“In the past several years, Montana has become a leader in quantum and photonics research. The industry supports our economy and provides hundreds of Montana jobs. I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan bill to ensure critical research programs continue so the U.S. remains at the forefront of cutting-edge technology,”said Daines.
Background:
Daines has long been a supporter of quantum research. Daines was an original sponsor of the National Quantum Initiative Act (NQIA), which was enacted in 2018 to establish a coordinated federal strategy for quantum computing. In 2025 he introduced the DOE Quantum Leadership Act to secure funding for quantum research at the U.S. Department of Energy- read the releaseHERE.
Daines visited Montana State University’s new state-of-the-art quantum research facility in October 2025- read the releaseHERE.
