McClain Announces Funding Award to Improve Macomb County Utilities

WASHINGTON - Today, Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) announced the Macomb Interceptor Drain Drainage District will receive $1 million for a utility rehabilitation project through the Environmental Protection Agency. “It is a privilege to fight for our communities every day in Washington, and I am pleased to help secure funding for Macomb County to improve its utility infrastructure for our citizens,” said McClain . “With over 68 miles of sanitary lines in operation, this project will ensure the longevity of the county's system as well as safety and efficiency for those that use it.” “This major sewer rehabilitation project that we started a few years ago inside the interceptor that carries the sanitary sewage from 600,000 people is extremely important to reduce the risk of another sinkhole like the one that occurred on 15 Mile Road in December 2016. We’ve been able to get state and county money to help pay for this $13.5 million construction project, and now federal money as well. Thank you to Congresswoman McClain for her effort,” Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice S. Miller said . The project’s funding was obtained in the FY 2022 Consolidated Appropriations Act and will assist the County in replacing a segment of the sewer system that is used by 11 communities in Macomb County.
