Sens. Rick Scott, Ashley Moody Support Florida’s Request for Pre-Landfall Emergency Declaration for Hurricane Isaias

Sens. Rick Scott, Ashley Moody Support Florida’s Request for Pre-Landfall Emergency Declaration for Hurricane Isaias October 9, 2026 NAPLES, Fla. – Today, U.S. Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting his immediate approval of the State of Florida’s request for a pre-landfall emergency declaration for 27 Florida counties ahead of Hurricane Isaias’s expected landfall along the Gulf Coast tonight. Hurricane Isaias is now a major category 3 hurricane, bringing severe weather and life-threatening storm surges to communities throughout the Florida Panhandle. Senator Scott received a briefing yesterday at the Port of Pensacola from local and state leaders, law enforcement, and emergency management officials in Pensacola ahead of Hurricane Isaias’s anticipated landfall. He continues to receive daily briefings from the National Hurricane Center on Hurricane Isaias, and spoke to President Trump on Wednesday, October 7, about the federal response to this storm. Read the full letter HERE or below: Dear Mr. President: We write in support of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s request for a pre-landfall emergency declaration covering 27 Florida counties in preparation for Hurricane Isaias, which has strengthened into a major hurricane and is expected to make landfall along Florida’s western Panhandle this evening. Hurricane Isaias poses a serious threat to Florida communities, with life-threatening storm surge, destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding expected across the affected region. With landfall imminent, timely federal assistance is critical to supporting state and local emergency response efforts and protecting Floridians, their property, and their communities. We urge you to promptly approve Governor DeSantis’s request for a pre-landfall emergency declaration to ensure Florida has access to the federal resources necessary to prepare for and respond to this dangerous storm. Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent matter and for your continued support of Florida. Sincerely, Senator Scott encourages all Floridians to visit his website at www.rickscott.senate.gov/hurricane-preparedness to get prepared today. See the latest on Hurricane Isaias from the National Hurricane Center at nhc.noaa.gov or @NHC_Atlantic on X, formerly known as Twitter, and from the Florida Division of Emergency Management at floridadisaster.org or @FLSERT . Additionally, Senator Scott encourages those recovering from previous hurricanes who need assistance with a federal agency, including FEMA and the SBA, or any other federal issue to contact his office at www.rickscott.senate.gov/contact/casework . ### https://www.rickscott.senate.gov/2026/10/sens-rick-scott-ashley-moody-support-florida-s-request-for-pre-landfall-emergency-declaration-for-hurricane-isaias
